Q1 Do I have to be a tennis player to rent a Tennis Partner (Lobster Sports Tennis Ball Machine)?

Not necessarily. All adults in Singapore are welcome to rent the Tennis Partners and try to play tennis. However, if you are interested in learning the sport, we recommend you hire a coach and/or do lots of research. Learning the proper technique first time round will mean a much faster improvement rate and prevent injuries.

Q2 I would like to rent a tennis partner. I can pick it up myself from one of your locations, but I don’t have time to drop it back. Can you collect it from me?

Yes from certain districts, Tennis Partner Pte Ltd will collect Tennis Partners from customers for a fee of $10. Simply select the self pick-up and collection boxes during the booking process and enter the address from where the Tennis Partner is to be collected from. Click here for a list of districts which Tennis Partner Pte Ltd can provide delivery and collection services. It is hoped that in the near future we can provide island-wide delivery and collection services.

Q3 Do you supply tennis balls?

Yes, each Tennis Partner is supplied with at least 100 Micro-X Tennis Balls, a ball hopper and a Remote Control Unit to control the Tennis Partner.

Q4 Do the machines require an electrical outlet?

No. All Tennis Partners (Lobster Sports Tennis Ball Machines) are fitted with heavy duty batteries and will provide at least 4 hours of continuous play.

Q5 Do all Tennis Partners come with a remote control?

Yes. All Tennis Partners are fitted with a remote control receiver and customers will be issued with a handheld remote control which will allow them to control specific functions of the Tennis Partner conveniently from the playing position. Please view the relevant section of the instruction manuals for instructions on using the remote control.

Q6 I would like to rent a Tennis Partner, but I don’t need it for 6 hours. Can I book it for less time?

For customised bookings, please call 9299 7239 or email bookings@tennispartner.com.sg with the details of your required booking. Subject to machine and staff availabilities we will do our best to meet the customer’s needs. Hourly rates prevail and a minimum of 24hrs notice is preferred.

Q7 Does the price to rent a Tennis Partner increase if there is more than 1 player?

Absolutely not. The price stipulated is per Tennis Partner. One Tennis Partner can be used comfortably to train several tennis players, and there is no additional charge per player.

Q9 I have been training on a Beginner Tennis Partner, and feel that I am now ready to move on to the intermediate Tennis Partner. Is it difficult to make a transition?

There are significant differences between the Beginner and Intermediate Tennis Partners, but you will adjust quickly. Easy to follow instruction manuals for each level of Tennis Partner can be found here. Operation of Tennis Partners

Q1 What are the Pre-Programmed Drills?

The Tennis Partners (Lobster Sports Tennis Ball Machines) have been programmed to deliver a continuum of 6 tennis balls, with the ball positions, trajectory, speed and spin already determined. The programs have been designed by professionals to engender a “match-mentality”, and force the player to think about his stance, choice of shot (cross-court, down-the-line etc) and stroke.

Q2 What is a 2-line drill?

When set in 2-line drill mode (only available on Tennis Partner Intermediate and Advanced), the Tennis Partner (Lobster Sports Tennis Ball Machines) will deliver alternating balls to the forehand and backhand courts. The 2-line drill mode can be used by a single player, 2 players or by 2 lines of players. Please view relevant section in the Tennis Partner instruction manuals for instructions on how to set the Tennis Partners in 2-line drill mode.

Q3 I have set a 2-line wide drill, but the ball to the back-court lands midway between the singles line and centre mark and the ball to the fore-court lands in the tram line, what should I do?

You need to realign the Tennis Partner in a straight line between the courts 2 centre marks (one at each end of the court). To do this pause the existing programme, walk over to back of the machine ensure it is in the correct location as described in section 7 of the instruction manual. Press the TEST button on the control panel, to fire a TEST ball and ensure that it lands on the service T. Adjust as necessary as described in section 7 of the instruction manual. Once the machine is delivering TEST balls in the centre of the court, you are now ready to begin your 2-line drill again.

Q4 What is the Oscillation feature?

The Tennis Partner will rhythmically rotate between 2 set points whilst delivering tennis balls at the feed rate which you have set. If you choose the sweep oscillation, the Tennis Partner will rotate in a manner to deliver tennis balls at a specified depth covering the full width of the court. This is useful for practicing “hitting on the run”. If you choose the depth oscillation, the Tennis Partner will deliver balls in a single line but will deliver balls at different depths. This feature is used to practice proper positioning (moving in or out) before hitting a ball and can also be used to train hitting the balls at different times during its path, half-volley, hitting the ball on the rise or hitting ball just before its second bounce.

Q5 What is the “True Match Play” and where do I find it?

True match play refers to the ability of the Tennis Partner Intermediate (Elite Grandslam IV) and Advanced (Elite Grandslam V LE) to realistically simulate an opponent whom has infinite variation of shot. To use this function, set the Tennis Partner to “full random” mode (please see instruction manuals on how to do this) and sophisticated computer software will deliver balls covering the full spectrum of the court, mixing up ball trajectory, speed and spin, and will keep you guessing for hours!

Q6 The remote control does not function, what should I do?

Ensure that the switch on the control panel which controls the remote control receiver is switched on (check your instruction manual for location of remote control switch). Should the problem persist, please call our HOTLINE (9299 7239) for immediate assistance.
